My child was in a specialized program in a school, and by afternoon he was a mess – fidgeting, not listening, noise making, and all sorts. He loved to help out, so working with the teacher he would go to the office, get a package of plain white paper, and install sheets in all the teacher’s printers. He needed help the first little bit but once it was routine, he would walk quietly into a class, add a couple pages, and go to the next class. Teacher’s appreciated him, he felt valued, and he got a break when he needed it most. Even though it was a little job, it gave everyone something and made his days better.
